President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened a 200% tariff at Champagne and other alcohol products from the European Union, increasing the global trade war that had preserved the market and triggered concerns of recession.
This step was carried out the day after the EU announced plans to slap the tariff of US goods worth $ 28 billion, including a 50% tariff for whiskey. The tariff marks the response to the US tasks to imports of steel and aluminum.
Trump asked the European Union to drop its tariff on the whiskey, said the US would be the opposite “immediately put” the tariff of alcohol products from the EU.
Trump sharply criticized the European Union, describing the organization as “one of the most hostile and harassing taxation and rejection authorities in the world.”

In a statement the day before, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, said that the EU “must act to protect consumers and business.”
