Trump’s government called on the California National Guard in responding to protests in Los Angeles over immigration operations which had resulted in several clashes between demonstrators and authority.

President Donald Trump signed a memorandum “mobilized 2,000 national guards to overcome violations of the law” in California as a demonstration that opposed immigration operations and customs enforcement continued in the state, Press Secretary of the White House Karoline Leavitt said in a Saturday statement.

Previously, Governor California Gavin Newsom said the Federal government was moving to “take over the California National Guard,” said the move was “deliberately inflamed” and said it would “only increase tension.”

Newsom said California’s local authority did not need help.

“LA authorities can access law enforcement assistance at a moment notice,” he said in a post in X. “We coordinate closely with cities and districts, and currently there are no needs that are not met.”

“After this violence, the endless Democratic leaders of California have fully released their responsibilities to protect their citizens,” Leavitt said. “That is why President Trump has signed a presidential memorandum who mobilized 2,000 national guards to overcome violations of the law that had been allowed to worsen,” Leavitt said.

Previously Saturday night, Trump said in a social media post that if the California MPs could not “do their work” then the federal government would “enter and solve the problem,” but he did not give specific details.

Protest on Saturday centered in the city of Paramount, following the immigration attack report that occurred at that location. However, the Mayor of Paramount Peggy Lemon then said during the press conference that the agent was staged, did not carry out attacks.

The protests followed the demonstration on Friday which came after the Immigration Enforcement Operation throughout the city. The federal agent raided many workplaces in the fashion district and other regions, according to the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, which led to hundreds of people, including children, detained by Ice agents in the Edward Roybal Federal Building in the center of LA, said Achu.

The large crowd then gathered near the Federal Building on Friday afternoon and night, leading to several clashes with the authorities.

The protest video on Saturday shows the border patrol agent installed with many protesters across the street, screaming to them. Records seem to show some smoke projectiles that were deployed as well.

In a statement on social media, the head of the United States border patrol Michael Banks said several arrests had been carried out on Saturday due to alleged attacks on federal agents.

Deputy Director of FBI and Bongino said the authorities tried to identify the people who threw stones into law enforcement vehicles.

AS Essayli’s lawyer said the federal law enforcement operation would be continued as planned at Los Angeles County this weekend.

“I urge the community to refrain from disturbing this legitimate action. Anyone who prevents federal agents will face arrest and prosecution,” he said.

The La Regency Sheriff Department said its personnel responded to Paramount Boulevard on Saturday, where large crowds were blocking the road.

“When the deputies arrived, it seems that federal law enforcement officers were in the area, and that community members gathered to protest. The Sheriff Department was not involved in the operation or actions of federal law enforcement and responded solely for traffic and crowd control,” the Sheriff Department said in a Saturday statement.

The Sheriff Department said that he did not participate in the activities of enforcing civil immigration or sweeping mass deportation.

“We remind the public to use their rights to protest peacefully, in connection with the safety of all members of the community. Our main responsibility is to ensure public safety for everyone present – both demonstrators, residents, and observers – by discussing potential security issues while supporting the expression of the first safe and valid amendment rights,” said the Sheriff Department.

Local, Federal Officials Pointing Fingers

The response to the protest has local and federal officials pointing to the fingers.

In a statement on Saturday, Ice Todd Acting Director Lyons blamed local officials, including Mayor La Karen Bass, and police for their response to the situation on Friday night.

“What happened in Los Angeles yesterday was very terrible,” said Lyons. “When the rioter attacked Ice Federal and law enforcement officers on LA’s paths, the Mayor of Bass was in favor of chaos and violation of the law over law enforcement.”

Lyons’ statement went on to say: “Our brave officers were vastly outnumberd, as over 1,000 rioters surrounded and attacked a federal building. It shop over two hours for the los angeles police department to respond, despite Angeles Arresting Criminal Illegal Aliens Including Gang Members, Drug Traffickers and Those with a History of Assault, Cruelty to Children, Domestic Violence, Robbing, and Smuggling.

LAPD issued a statement then on Saturday which denied the claim of the ICE Director, said his response was postponed, in part, because the federal authority had mobilized chemical irritation into the crowd.

“Contrary to the claim that LAPD postponed his response for more than two hours, our personnel mobilized and acted as fast as conditions safely permitted,” the statement said. “Our response time is influenced by significant traffic jams, the presence of demonstrators, and, especially, by the fact that federal agents have mobilized irritation to the crowd before the arrival of LAPD. This created a dangerous environment to respond to officers. Within 55 minutes after receiving a call, we began to dissolve hostile and angry crowds.

Bass has condemned the ICE operation in his city.

“As the mayor of the proud immigrant city, which contributes to our city in many ways, I am very angry with what has happened. This tactic is sowing terror in our community and disrupts the basic principles of safety in our city.

Bass told ABC Los Angeles Station Kabc that both he and the Los Angeles police department did not realize that ice attacks would occur.

The large crowd first began gathering near the federal detention center in the center of LA City on Friday afternoon, protesting immigration attacks and led to several clashes reported by the authorities. Some protesters were seen throwing objects into the vehicle, and the others tried to block Van from going on Friday, reporting Kabc.

Shortly after 7 pm, the Los Angeles police department stated a assembly that violated the law, warning the protesters that they were at risk of being arrested if they remained in the area. LAPD officers were seen lining up on the travels near the Federal Building, Kabc reported.

Lapd said in a social media post Friday night that officers had reported “a small group of cruel people” threw a large piece of concrete.

“Once again, a assembly that violates the law has been declared. You must leave the area. The use of less deadly ammunition has been ratified by the Commander of the incident,” LAPD said at the Post.

The Department of Domestic Security said that law enforcement targets in Los Angeles were “despicable.”

“The Mayor of Bass, Ice is not responsible for ‘sowing the terror’ that is possible by the protesters that you allow,” DHS said.
