President Donald Trump on Tuesday enhanced the trade war with Canada, imposed a new round of tariffs on steel and aluminum products, threatened additional tasks, and reaffirmed the call for Canada to release its sovereignty and became part of the United States.

Top Canada officials responded by force, saying the country would maintain its countermeasures until Trump attracted US tariffs.

Trump announced a new policy a day after ontario slapped an additional 25% fee for electricity sent to the US, saying that he added another 25% tariff to Canadian steel and aluminum, so that the total was 50%.

Trump said in a post about the social truth that the increase in tariffs “will take effect tomorrow morning, March 12.”

The US imports more steel and aluminum from Canada than other countries.

In an interview on Tuesday after Trump’s announcement, Ontario Prime Minister Doug Ford urged Trump to attract tariffs, threatening to further increase the deadlock by turning off Canadian electricity to the US to the US

“That’s the last thing I want to do,” Ford told CNBC. “I want to send more electricity to the US, to our closest allies.”

“Is this a tool in our toolkit? 100%. And as [Trump] Continue to hurt the Canadian family, the Ontario family, I will not hesitate to do that, “Ford continued.

A spokesman for Prime Minister Mark Carney who entered Canada described Trump’s latest tariff as “attacks on Canadian workers, families and business.”

“My government will continue to maintain our tariffs until America shows respect for us and make a reliable and reliable commitment for free and fair trade,” the spokesman said in a statement to ABC News.

Trump also said in his position that he would “immediately state the national emergency about electricity” in areas that were influenced by tariffs from Canada. He said that the national emergency would “allow the US to quickly do what to do” to respond to the tariffs from Canada, without providing any specifics about what actions might be taken by the US.

Previously Tuesday, Ford urged Trump to reconsider the tariff, saying that they “caused chaos.”

“The market is tanking. He needs to drop the tariff and come to the table to negotiate a fair trade agreement. Until he does it, we will not resign,” Ford said in A post at x.

Announcement from Trump increased the trade war between departing last week after the US imposed a 25% tariff on imports from Canada. In almost being assigned responses, Canada slapped a 25% retaliation rate with goods worth $ 30 billion. Additional product rates worth $ 125 billion will be valid in 21 days, said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the time

Trudeau sharply criticized the tariff, calling them “stupid” policies that made no sense. “

The steps of the Tit-For-Tat reinstate the trade war that had been avoided a month before, when Trump stopped the implementation of tariffs after reaching an agreement with Canada about border enforcement.

At the end of February, Trump accused that drugs such as Fentanyl continued to enter the US through Canada, regardless of the agreement achieved a few weeks before to overcome this problem.

President Donald Trump spoke to reporters before he signed an executive order at the White House Oval Office, February 13, 2025, in Washington.

Since September, almost all Fentanyl confiscated by the US came through the southern border with Mexico, according to the US Customs and Border Patrol Agent (CBP). Less than 1% of Fentanyl was confiscated on the northern border with Canada, CBP was found.

The reasons for tariffs are based on false accusations about Canada as the main source of drugs entering the US, Trudeau said last week.

As part of his announcement on Tuesday, Trump threatened to impose additional retaliation rates in Canada if the US goods on goods remain.

“If the old and old fares are also not dropped by Canada, I will substantially improve, on April 2, the car rates coming to the US which basically will close the car manufacturing business in Canada,” Trump said in the social post of truth.

He also asked Canada to bring down their tariffs on dairy farmers, and once again confirmed that Canada must be the 51st American state.

“The line of artificial separation that was withdrawn for years ago will eventually disappear, and we will have the safest and most beautiful country anywhere in the world – and your brilliant national anthem,” O Canadian, “will continue to play, but now representing a great and strong country in the greatest country that the world has seen!,” Trump said at the post.
