London – The American Embassy in Syria has warned all US citizens to leave the country because of “an increase in the possibility of attacks” during the Idul Fitri vacation at the end of March, which marks the end of Ramadan in the Muslim world.

The embassy posted a notification to its website on Friday night reminded residents of the potential attack targeting “embassies, international organizations, and Syrian public institutions” in the Syrian capital Damascus.

“The attack method can include, but not limited to, individual attackers, armed men, or the use of explosives,” said the embassy notification. “Leave Syria now,” he added.

The current advisor to the Foreign Department for Syria is at the highest level of 4 – alert which means that Americans are advised not to travel to the country for any reason.

“This advisor remains valid because of a significant risk of terrorism, civil riots, kidnapping, taking hostages, armed conflicts and unfair detention,” said the embassy in his latest notification.

The US Embassy in Damascus suspended operations in 2012 shortly after the civil war erupted between the former President Bashar Assad and the rebel group patch. Assad was leveled by the end of last year by a collection of opposition forces led by Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham Islamic group. HTS leader Ahmed al-Sharaa is now a temporary president of Syria.

“The US government cannot provide any routine consular or emergency services to US citizens in Syria,” the embassy wrote. “The Czech Republic functions as a protective force for US interests in Syria.”

“US citizens in Syria who need emergency assistance must contact the US interest department of the Czech Republic Embassy,” he added.
