A driver crashed into a pedestrian in Liverpool on Monday, said the police, because hundreds of thousands had gathered in a parade that celebrated the Liverpool soccer club that won the English Premier League football title.
The vehicle collided with “a number of pedestrians in water street” right after 6 pm local time, said Merseyside police.

“The car stopped at the scene and a man had been detained,” said Merseyside Police statement.
Emergency personnel are at the scene, said the authorities. Police do not have details about any injury in a collision.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the incident was “surprising.”
“The scene in Liverpool is terrible – my mind with all who are injured or affected,” Starmer said in a statement. “I keep updated about development and asking us to give police the space they need to investigate.”
