Atlantic Editor in Chief Jeffrey Goldberg joined ABC News Live to discuss when he realized that he had been added to a signal group chat with high government officials who discussed US attacks on Houthi in Yemen.
“My reaction is, I think I have found a massive violation of security in the US national security system,” Goldberg told Prime Linsey Davis on Monday.
This happened after the White House confirmed on Monday that an accidental signal group chat included Goldberg “seems authentic.”
“It is almost true that if the Atlantic editorial leader is given access to this kind of information, weapons and package systems and time and weather in Yemen and all types of information about the sorting of certain events, then there is clearly a violation of security,” Goldberg told Davis.

Goldberg said he initially thought it might be “spoof” or “trick,” but that “it became rather clear to me that this was a real group” once the attack occurred.
He said he broke away from the chat and “no longer know what, if there is, what happens in the chat.”

“I witnessed this Yemeni operation changed from the beginning to the clear end, and it was enough for me to know that there was something wrong in the system here that would allow this information to come so dangerous openly, to the wild,” he said.
Spokesperson of the White House Security Council Brian Hughes shared with ABC News the statement he gave to Atlantic who confirmed the truth of the signal group chat, which according to Goldberg included Defense Minister Pete Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance, National Security Advisor of the White House Mike Waltz and State Secretary Marco Rubio, including.

After the surface of the signal chat, the top Democrats have called for an investigation of the incident.
“Leakage of national security information that is sensitive to Trump’s administration in a system that is not classified is truly outrageous and surprisingly conscience,” said Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries in a statement.
