As soon as the officials arrived at the scene, they found a 16 -year -old victim, who was later identified as Evette Jeffrey, as “unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound on the head,” NyPD said in a statement.

Jeffrey was transported to Lincoln Hospital, where he was then declared dead, said Tisch.

“He has to go home now dinner with his family, but on the contrary we talk about other children’s victims from weapons violence,” Tisch said.

The video recovered from the school showing a group of children leaving the school yard and entered the path next to the building, when the fight broke out, the officials said.

A 14-year-old man wearing a white t-shirt and shorts was punched by another man, who then continued to punch several other people in the crowd, the police said.

Someone handed the gun to the 14 -year -old man, who then continued to run to the man who attacked him, the officials said. The teenager then fired three rounds of shots into the crowd, the officials said.

In the video recording, Jeffrey was seen driving from the school yard to the path with a scooter, the police said. He “was not involved in the battle,” but walked to another man on the edge of the group who “tried to pull it behind the brick wall to be covered,” said officials.

Apart from the efforts of men in protecting him, Jeffrey was shot in the head and immediately fell to the ground, the police said.

Jeffrey, who was only 16 months old, was a student at Morris High School nearby, said officials. His grandmother told ABC New York station Wabc That he “will never forgive” suspected shooters or anyone involved in the death of his grandchildren.

The alleged 14 -year -old shooter was detained by the police on Tuesday, according to Wabc.

“You can say you regret a million times, I will never forgive you, one of you,” the grandmother said.

President Bronx Borough Vanessa Gibson said Jeffrey’s mother “really could not be entertained.”

“He got the worst phone call that parents should not get, that his son was shot when he was here in a playground after school,” Gibson said during a press conference on Monday night. “We just recognized Mother’s Day yesterday, and now this mother has lost her child. This is a parent who will never be the same again.”

Tisch said the shooting of victims under the age of 18 years rose 200% in Bronx in 2024 compared to 2018.

“This is a baby who kills a baby and must stop,” said Tisch.

Mayor Eric Adams, who was also at the scene on Monday spoke to reporters and parents who care, described the loss as “unimaginable tragedy” on x.

“I don’t even know what to say when shooting like this occurs,” Adams said to X. “We parents must continue to do everything our power to ensure our children cannot access weapons.”
