Seven out of 10 Americans think President Donald Trump’s tariff in international trade will increase US inflation, exceeding the hope that they will increase manufacturing work and trigger a 64% level of disagreement on how he handles this problem.
In fact, almost half of the Republican party – 47% on the ABC News/Washington Post/IPSOS opinion, which was released Friday – said they thought the tariff would have a negative impact on inflation. It jumped to 75% of the independent, a swing group in national politics.
The recognized tariff is a moving target. Administration has stopped several (although not those who are waiting for negotiations.

And some are considered positive: 59% say they think tariffs will have a positive impact on creating manufacturing jobs in the United States, including 90% of the Republican Party and 60% independent. That, along with lowering prices, are some of Trump’s main campaign promises.
But – Given the current state of the game – Negative Scale Tips on the Third Factor: 56% in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates with field work by IPSOSThinking of handling Trump tariffs will have a negative impact on American economic leadership in the world vs 42% who see positive impacts.

Democrats, for their part, are unanimously opposed to tariffs. Nine out of 10 thinking they will have a negative impact on inflation (90%) and the world’s economic leadership (89%), and 96%that almost Ununaim did not approve of Trump’s handling of them. Democrats are not sold at tariffs creating manufacturing work, good: 68% think they will be injured, not helping.
Given the inflation fears, Trump’s overall ranking to handle tariffs is 30 points of an area under water, 34%-64%. It was far worse than the 7 -point deficit in approval about the handling of immigration (as reported here), showing that public sentiments were especially proud when economic welfare was on the telephone.

Indeed, in his own party, 25% of the Republican party did not approve the handling of Trump tariffs, as was 30% of conservatives. And disapproval reaches 48% of non-educated white people and 47% of Rural Americans, two groups of Trump’s core supporting groups.
