McKenzie Heeter, a 20 -year -old junior, told ABC News that he was only a few meters from the armed man when he shot a woman wearing a scrub by a student union.

The shooter “waved around a bigger rifle … and then he pulled out a gun and shot the woman,” Heeter said.

“His back for him, he just walked. I didn’t even think he registered what happened,” he said. “That’s what I keep thinking about.”

Heeter described running across the campus with panic merely.

“I did a mile on a sandals. I never ran that fast in my life,” he said. “I feel I have to go, or that can be me next.”

The official revealed that the stepmother of the suspect, Jessica Ikner, was the current representative at the local Sheriff Leon County office. While the authorities identified Jessica Ikner as the mother of the suspect, the court document showed that she was her stepmother.

Phoenix Ikner has access to one of the personal weapons of his stepmother, which is one of the weapons found at the scene, said Sheriff Walter McNeil.

The suspect is also a “old member” of the Sheriff Leon County Youth Advisory Board, McNeil said.

He is “involved in a number of training programs that we have,” said Sheriff, added, “It is not surprising to us that he has access to weapons.”

In a statement to the Florida State University community, President Richard McCullough called the shooting “a tragic and unreasonable act of violence.”

FSU has canceled the class and sports events throughout the weekend. Vigil was set for Friday at 17:00

President Donald Trump said Thursday that he had “the obligation to protect” the second amendment when asked by a reporter at the Oval office if he saw something “violated” with the current American weapons law.

“Listen, I am a big supporter of the second amendment. I have been from the beginning. I protected him, and these things are terrible, but the gun did not do the shooting. People did it. This is a phrase that might be used too often,” Trump said.

“I will tell you that it’s embarrassing,” he said of the shooting.
