The investigation was taking place after the authorities found a corpse that matched the description of a missing 13 -year -old boy, said Police Los Angeles.
Oscar Omar Hernandez, from San Fernando Valley, was reported missing by his family on Sunday after he “failed to go home from visiting an acquaintance in Lancaster,” said Captain Lapd, Scot Williams in a statement.
The Robbery Division of the Los Angeles Police Department took over Tuesday’s leadership in the investigation, which then took them to the “interest field” in the city of Oxnard, west of Los Angeles, Williams said.
“In collaboration with our partners at the FBI, the search for coordinated feet in the area occurred,” Williams said. “During the search, the body that matches the description of the missing teenagers is found.”
The identity of the deceased has not been officially confirmed, and the cause of death has not been determined, said the police.
Detectives pursue “Determine the causes of death and identify people who may be involved or have information relevant to this investigation,” Williams said.

Family and friends held an event for Oscar Omar Hernandez in Los Angeles, April 3, 2025.

Deputy Head of Lapd Alan Hamilton told reporters at the scene at Oxnard on Wednesday that they worked to determine the time line in the case.
“The family is aware of his purpose, and I will leave it as part of the investigation,” he said.
The police will not say what brought them to Oxnard.
“What we can say is that our investigation takes us to this point here … in unrelated areas in Ventura County,” Hamilton said.
Oscar’s family and friends paid respect for the teenager on Thursday at a location where the corpse was found on the side of the road in Oxnard.
“He doesn’t need to be treated like an animal. That’s my son,” his mother, Gladys Bautista, shouted in Spanish, ABC News’ Los Angeles Station Kabc reported.
Beloved people also gather outside of their homes in the North Hollywood area, where friends remember it as the “best person” who is “always kind” and great dancers.
The police did not have an update about the investigation on Friday.
“Anyone who thinks they will escape with all kinds of rotten games or evil activities or criminal activities, they will find out that the Los Angeles police department will not stop to bring people to court,” Hamilton said at the scene on Wednesday.
