Lori Daybell, the mother who was punished for killing her two children in the apocalypse plot, conveyed her closing argument on Monday during her latest trial in Arizona, where she was accused of conspiring with her brother to kill her fourth husband.
Nicknamed “Doomsday Mom,” Daybell argues that her brother shot her husband for 13 years, Charles Vallow, to defend himself at his home in Chandler, Arizona, in July 2019. His brother, Alex Cox, died of a natural goal after the shooting.
The prosecutor, meanwhile, said that the shooting was a tactic for Daybell to get rid of her husband who wasolated so that she could get a life insurance policy worth $ 1 million and with her husband at this time, Chad Daybell, whom he married four months after the shooting. Furthermore, the prosecutor said that he begged their religious beliefs as justification for the murder and gave his brother “religious authority” to kill Vallow because they believed he was possessed by an evil spirit which they called “Ned.”

Lori Daybell, 51, represented himself in the Phoenix trial. He claimed to be innocent for conspiracy to commit first -level murder.
During the closing argument for almost 20 minutes, he told the judges that the shooting was not a planned murder but a “tragic family event.”
“This event is not planned or expected. That is surprising,” he said.
He argued that the negligent officer conducted a thorough investigation, even though he also said the Chandler Police Department “treated this event as well as: defending himself.”
“This is the country’s effort to try to improve the crime that does not exist,” he said.
Daybell also urged the judges to witness all police interviews conducted after the shooting, which was partly shown during the trial.
The judge experienced some objections during the closing argument after he referred to the testimony that had not been included in evidence during the trial.
During the closing argument for almost two hours on Monday, Maricopa District Prosecutor Deputy Treena Kay said the evidence at the scene showed that Vallow was not shot to defend himself, but “executed” and the scene was “staged.”
She began by telling the text message sent from Lori Daybell to her husband, Chad, seven days after Vallow was killed, discussing her husband’s life insurance policy which has now died. Kay said that, after knowing he was no longer the recipient of the plan, the defendant sent a message to Chad who was “ned” might change it “before we get rid of it.”
“His words told us that he was involved in this murder, his actions and words -his words sent an SMS Chad Daybell told us the motive behind this murder -Chad and money,” Kay told the jury.
The prosecutor also reviewed the witness’s testimony which he said talked about what he called Lori Daybell and “bent religious beliefs” Alex Cox and a text message sent by the defendant to his brother before the deadly shooting that called NEFI, a Prophet in the Mormon book ordered by God to kill Laban.
“Lori Vallow wants millions of dollars, and he wants Chad Daybell, and he and Alex use the religious beliefs that are twisting they have so they can kill crime, have Charles and ‘be Nefi,'” Kay said.

Kay said Alex Cox appeared at his sister’s house with a pistol that was loaded, “Ready for his mission,” and shot Vallow twice. He argued that the evidence showed the second shot was fired while Vallow lay on the ground.
“That is the first -level murder planned, no matter what you believed before,” said Kay.
Daybell denied in his closing that Nefi “signifies faith, perseverance and strong courage.”
“The country’s efforts to misinterpret positive text messages about extraordinary religious figures, nefi, and try to turn them into orders to kill someone unreasonable,” he said.
Kay advised the judges that even if you did not hear someone explicitly talk about conspiracy, “Conspiracy can be concluded from a state that shows the general criminal purpose.”
In this case, the behavior of concluding “Alex’s conspiracy came with his weapon to shoot and kill Charles,” he said.
The jury is now discussing the decision.
More than two weeks, the state called more than a dozen witnesses, including other Daybell brothers, Adam Cox, who testified that he was “no doubt” his two siblings conspired to kill Vallow after learning that his brother had shot him fatal.
Daybell did not call witnesses in the trial and did not take a stand in his own defense.
In his cross -examination, Daybell tried to question the accuracy of the police investigation of the shooting. He asked several witnesses, including his brother Adam Cox, did they personally see a conspiracy with his brother Alex Cox to kill her husband, who they responded not.
Throughout the trial, judges often experience frequent objections from the prosecution of daybell questions to testify, rumors, relevance, and speculation.
After the state rested its case on April 16, Daybell gave a motion for liberation because there was not enough evidence. The judge denied it, said the court found that there was sufficient evidence that a jury that made sense could find him guilty.

Both Lori and Chad Daybell were found guilty of the first-level murder of the deaths of their children, Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 16, who lost months after Vallow was killed. In two separate trials in 2023 and 2024, prosecutors argued that the couple thought children had zombies and killed them so they could be together. Children’s bodies were found in Daybell’s Idaho property in June 2020 after a search for months.
Lori Daybell is currently serving a life imprisonment without a parole for the murder of the two children. He denied killing them.
Chad Daybell was sentenced to death after being punished for killing the two children, as well as his first wife, Tamara Daybell, and now waiting for the execution of Idaho’s death sentence.
