Columbia University was quoted for violating the Federal Civil Rights Act allegedly “acting with deliberate ignorance of students’ harassment of students of Jewish students” since 7 October 2023 terrorist attacks on Israel, the Ministry of Health and the Humanitarian Service Office for Civil Rights said.

This is the latest action of Trump’s administration taken against a leading university. On Thursday, Trump’s administration forbade Harvard University from allowing international students to register at universities-a step according to university, because they had “changed their institutions that were very good to be sole of anti-American agitators, anti-semit, pro-terrorists,” said a spokesman for the White House Abigail Jackson.

HHS accused that Columbia violated the title VI, which forbade those who received federal financial assistance from discrimination in their programs and activities based on race, color, or origin of nationality – including discrimination against individuals based on the identity or ancestors or ancestors of Israeli or felt by Israel or Jews.

The notification, both from the HHS and the Ministry of Education, “articulates the broad factual findings that reach a period of more than 19 months where the university continues to fail to protect Jewish students,” the government said in its announcement. “These findings are based on information and documents obtained during the investigation, including witness interviews; written policy and procedure examinations; reliable media reports that contemporary capturing anti-Semitic incidents and events at Columbia University; and reports from the Columbia University Task Force itself on Antisemitism.”

“This finding carefully documents the hostile environment of Jewish students at Columbia University to survive for more than 19 months, disrupting their education, safety and welfare,” said Anthony Archeval, Acting Director of the Civil Rights Office in HHS. “We encourage Columbia University to work with us to reach an agreement that reflects a significant meaningful change -will protect Jewish students.

The government said that Columbia University failed to take several actions, including failing to establish an effective reporting mechanism for antisemitism until the summer of 2024, failure to comply with its own policies and procedures when responding to complaints of Jewish students and regulating violations of Jewish students and did not investigate or punish vandalism in the classroom.

“We understand that this finding is part of our sustainable discussion with the government. Columbia is very committed to fighting antisemitism and all forms of harassment and discrimination on our campus,” Columbia University said in a statement on Friday morning. “We deal with this problem seriously and will work with the Ministry of Health and Humanitarian Services and the Ministry of Education to overcome them.”

In March, the university approved the list of demands from Trump’s administration after canceling a grant and contract worth $ 400 million to the institution because “inhibition continues to face continuous harassment of Jewish students,” according to a statement from the Trump government that month.

“Among them carried out tighter control over the Ministry of Middle East Study Ministry and examined campus activities since the commemoration of Hamas attacks on Israel.

In a statement from March 19, while the president while Katrina Armstrong said: “Antisemitism, harassment, and discrimination in any form cannot be accepted and damage the sense of our community or our academic mission.”
