Attorney General Pam Bondi directed prosecutors Federal to seek the death penalty for Luigi Mgione if he was sentenced to the December murder against United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, he announced in a Tuesday statement.

One of the federal accusations of Mgione, murder through the use of firearms, made him qualify for the death penalty if punished.

“Manione’s murder of Brian Thompson-a innocent man and the father of two small-blooded children who surprised America,” Bondi said in a statement. “After being considered carefully, I have directed the Federal Prosecutor to seek the death penalty in this case when we carried out President Trump’s agenda to stop violent crimes and make America safe again.”

Luigi Mijione appeared in a trial for the murder of UHC CEO Brian Thompson at the Manhattan Criminal Court on February 21, 2025 in New York City.

Mgione was accused of shooting down Thompson outside of a Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan when the CEO headed to the Investor Conference on December 4. He was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, five days after the murder.

Manione claimed to be innocent for the country’s accusations.

He has not submitted an application for federal accusations. He will return to the Federal Court on April 18.
