A man who fled from Puerto Rico prison for almost 40 years ago was detained in Florida, according to the Sheriff Office of Lee Regency.

Jorge Milla-Valdes fled from Puerto Rico prison in 1987. The Department of Justice Puerto Rico believes he lives with the name Luis Aguirre.

The history of crimes includes robberies and batteries that are exacerbated by deadly weapons at Monroe County Florida, according to the Sheriff Office.

The LCSO Fugitive Warrant Unit is looking for Milla-Valdes and obtains the original 1986 fingerprint from Puerto Rico, and a set of its criminal history at Monroe County.

“Tina Carver’s latent fingerprint supervisor accelerates the ratio of fingerprints. 15 minutes later and using a finger mold taken more than 40 years ago-the carver can match the mold, and confirm that Aguirre and Milla-Valdes are the same people who have escaped,” said the Sheriff Office.

The fugitive unit was told about the match and Milla-Valdes were held two hours later on FT. Myers Shores, according to Sheriff’s office.

“They didn’t want me. They told me about twice,” Milla-Valdes told officers when he was detained, the police bodycam recorded.

“Now they do it. They change their minds,” answered an officer who caught.

Sheriff praised the unit’s quick response.

“My team’s expertise is unmatched at every level; Even if your crime does not start here at Lee County, I promise, they will end here,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement.
